Swettenham Stud shuttler Americain (USA) sired his second Kentucky-bred winner when Lizzie’s Way streeted a turf maiden field over 1600m at Golden Gate Fields on Friday.
The Rene Amescua-trained filly was unhurried in the early stages before jockey Juan Hernandez sent her on a searching four-wide rally around the home turn. She collared the leader Silver Minx and then raced away to score by 5 lengths.
Lizzie’s Way was bred by Americain’s part-owners Kevin & Christine Bamford and sold for $10,000 at the 2015 Keeneland September yearling sale to My Way Racing. She is the first foal of Darley-bred mare Water Ice (Shamardal) who won a Wolverhampton nursery in July 2010.
There have been 5 Americain 2yo starters to date from his first crop conceived at Calumet Farm in Kentucky. Folk Magic was the first of them and she won by 3 lengths on debut at Woodbine. American Deluxe looks another early winner following an encouraging second at Belmont Park.
