Americain yearlings impress at Premier

Swettenham Stud’s impressive stallion, Americain (USA) is having a very strong Premier Sale with his five high quality session one yearlings averaging over $90,000. The son of champion stallion Dynaformer, his second crop yearlings are being purchased by some of the most astute judges in the industry.

The first, was lot 13 in Swettenham Stud’s draft from the mare La Famelia. A well grown strong colt, out of the listed winning Strategic mare, she was the winner of 4 races including the listed Hareeba Stakes. This is her seventh foal and she is the dam of three winners including French Fern, who won the ATC Reisling stakes in 2016. She is also the dam of “Be Like Dad” a multiple winner at Randwick.

A great walking colt from the immediate family of Russeting and Schillaci.

The La Famelia colt was bought by good judge David Payne for $40,000. “I liked him straight away, being a big, strong colt, and I know the family so well.” David said.

Currently training French Fern, he loves the family. “She will certainly win a Listed or Group race.”

The second yearling by Americain to be offered was from Gilgai Farm in Nagambie, Lot 29 a brown colt out of the Hussonet (USA) mare, Lavenham.

A lovely well-balanced colt, Lavenham is a half sister to Stupido from the good producer Lady Succeed (JPN), with four to race, all winners. From the family of the multiple black type producer Hydro Calico, including Listed winner Shinko Calico and Esperero.

He purchased by Triple Crown Syndications and trainer Ciaron Maher‘s Bloodstock for $120,000.

Speaking to Chris Ward of Triple Crown Syndications he just stood out as a beautiful bodied horse and a very athletic mover. "We anticipate he will get over a bit of distance, and with Ciaron training him off the success of Jameka, he won’t be hard to syndicate. With his good looks, and quality stable, we have already had a lot of interest in him and he will certainly be given every opportunity to realise his potential.”

The third Americain was sold on behalf of Daisy Hill Breeding & Investments. The brown colt went through the ring as lot 117, out of the Fusaichi Pegasus (USA) mare Paris Tryst for $85,000. Speaking with Colleen Bamford who raced Americain and owns Daisy Hill, “He is just a beautiful compact yearling, rich in colour and a lovely type. A true mix of Americain and Let’s Elope.” This colt’s family needs no introduction with Let’s Elope (NZ) producing multiple Group and Stakes winners including Outback Joe and Ustinov.

Purchased by Dynamic Syndications on behalf of Gai Waterhouse, they were back for more, having bought the full brother last year. “Well liked in the stables, showing a great attitude and trainability, Gai loved him so much she wanted his brother too. I was told 50% was already sold, so he will be one to watch when he hits the track in the future.’ Colleen said.

The fourth Americain sired yearling was the impressive black colt from the Fastnet Rock mare, And Rock. Lot 132, also from Daisy Hill Breeding and Investments, Coleen commented, “He is a beautiful correct colt in every way, a real crowd favourite having been inspected over 150 times. Again a mix of his sire Americain and his dam, And Rock, a lovely looking mare in her own right. He has been so busy, with his beautiful colour attracting buyers, we are lucky he has such a laid back attitude. You know he will walk out onto the track cool and collected.”

Purchased by On Track Thoroughbreds from QLD for $120,000 he will be heading to the leading stables of Darren Weir.

The final lot in the first session for Americain is from the Swettenham Stud draft. Lot 287 is a strong, well-balanced filly out of the talented race mare The Gem by Scenic (IRE). The Gem won four times at metropolitan level and gained black type at Listed level. The dam of five foals, she has produced the consistent Benny Dee who has been placed at Flemington and Moonee Valley, and Tsavorite, placed this season at 3. The full sister to The Gem, Market Price had 10 wins including the Group 2 VRC Hardy Brothers Classic and the Group 2 Blamey Stakes, and has now produced the stakes performers Pierre Joseph, Not At All Ordinary and Discoverers.

Purchased by McDonald Racing for $90,000 she will be given every chance to perform to his best on the track.
