What a difference a couple of days makes, when the New South Wales galloper Gitan won again last Friday at Hawkesbury with back to back wins for Goulburn trainer Jean Dubois and regular jockey Jeff Penza.

Gitan’s last win was at his home track at Goulburn on the 10th of February in the Doyle’s on the Beach Maiden Plate over 1400m.

By Equiano, out of the mare Flying Spice by Flying Spur, Gitan means gypsy in french. However unlike his namesake, he is as honest as they come.

Bred by Euan White, Gitan was sold by Swettenham Stud at the 2015 Inglis Premier Yearling sales for $100,000 to Woodpark Stud.

Last Wednesday, Swettenham Stud sold his impressive half sister

as Lot 749 by their stallion Master Of Design to Yu Long Investments, China.

Sold for $15,000 they certainly got a bargain, as had this notable update been in the yearling’s pedigree they would have paid a pretty penny more.

After jumping well, Gitan settled to sit behind the leader, fighting it out in a three way battle down the straight. In a strong contest Gitan come out on top to win the WPH Sports Club CG&E Handicap over 1400m.

Gitan received positive comments post race - He’s doing a good job this horse, he’s a tough bugger, he’s honest, he’s hard to get past and now he has won back to back.
