Equiano’s Curvano was too strong on the line at Pakenham Park on Thursday night going head to head down the straight with Downhearted in the Advance Cables Bm70 over 1400m.
With both horses taking the lead at times, Curvano didn’t give in and stuck his nose out to take the winnings.
In front of a large group of owners, Jockey Jye McNeil would have definitely heard them screaming down the straight, and was greeted my many happy faces when he returned to scale.
“He was nice and settled even though he had to come across from the wide gate. Stepping up in distance today, he controlled the race on speed and kicked well on the turn. He travelled beautifully and fought hard all the way to the line. He only does what he has to do so I wouldn’t be surprised if he got further in the future.”
Robbie Griffiths Racing Stable representative Jade Matthews was thrilled with the honest galloper, commenting that he always gives his best.
“He fought hard, it was a tough win and it was a great ride by Jye.”
“It is really exciting to get a win like that for a great group of owners”
A Pakenham Park track specialist, Curvano has had a solid preparation this time in, with two wins already on the board, and not out of the placings at his four starts back.
“He’s still really a baby, but he just keeps ticking the boxes. He is only lightly raced and has a great casual attitude; he eats well and never gets over the top. We will just keep stepping him up through the grades and he looks like he will get a mile easily. It would be nice to get a win in town this preparation”
Curvano is a four-year-old chestnut gelding by Equiano out of the Annaba mare Curvaceous Miss. Bred by Dennis Malcolm from Nangawooka Park, Curvaceous Miss has been a good breeder for them, having produced 8 winners from 10 foals to race. She currently has a flashy chestnut Toronado weanling.
