Strike Gold with Swettenham’s VOBIS Gold Yearlings

Swettenham Stud will be playing a major role this weekend with the Victorian breeding industry showcasing their lucrative program, the Victorian Owners and Breeders Incentive Scheme (VOBIS).

On Saturday at Caulfield, The Victorian Owners and Breeders raceday is highlighted by nearly $1.9 million in prize money and bonuses on offer, including six VOBIS Gold Premier races. On Sunday, the annual Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale will take place at Oaklands.

Race goers will be in for a treat, with Swettenham Stud’s own VOBIS golden boy, Trust In A Gust on show in the stallion parade before the first race at 11.30am. An outstanding looking individual, he was extremely popular in his first season at stud, and breeders are eagerly anticipating the arrival this year of his first foals.

On Sunday, the annual Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale will be held. Known for it’s terrific value, the quality Swettenham Stud draft of 17 yearlings is no exception. Brian Gorman, Swettenham Stud’s operations manager identifies a few of their stand out lots, they will be offering for sale.

Lot 60 is a bay colt by Americain x Paris Secrets - A well-grown athlete who is a very balanced individual. He has a lot of his sire about him.

Lot 152 is a bay colt by Fiorente x Aqua Modern - The way this colt has developed throughout his preparation, shows a racehorse in the making. He has plenty of leg and bone underneath him and an impressive girth.

Lot 99 is a bay filly by Master of Design x Sidereal Messenger - A great first foal. She has a lot of style and length about her.

Lot 111 is a bay filly by Host x Star Snuck - From a great black type family this is a stand out filly. She is an extremely balanced and athletic filly with the best forearm in the draft.

With every yearling in the sale being Super VOBIS nominated, they are eligible for millions of dollars of bonuses through the VOBIS system during their 2YO and 3YO racing seasons. Further to this, all the yearlings at the sale are eligible to be nominated for the VOBIS Gold incentive scheme.

The Swettenham Stud VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale drafts have been a happy hunting ground for clever buyers in previous years.

Graduates of the 2014 sale include the Robbie Griffiths trained Kaphero filly, Northkape, a smart $5,000 purchase. Northkape, bred by Adam Sangster and Gerry Ryan, collected the rewards immediately with a debut win in the $130,000 Inglis VOBIS Gold Plate over 1000m. She has now won over $116,000 in prize money, including $21,000 in VOBIS bonuses.

The 2014 draft also produced the talented Darren Weir trained, group 3 placed filly, Lyuba. A bargain buy at only $2000, she has won over $274,000 in prize money during her racing career, picking up a generous $43,000 in VOBIS bonuses.

Additionally Aurelius Hero, from the 2013 draft was a profitable $11,000 purchase for trainer Dan O’Sullivan, having now won over $153,000 in prize money with $28,000 in VOBIS bonuses.

With the VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale highlighting the strength and confidence in the racing and breeding racing industry in Victoria, Swettenham Stud’s 2017 draft provides prospective buyers an opportunity to invest in quality yearlings that are capable of becoming great value racehorses in the future.
