Puissance De Lune's Sister Stunning on Debut

A full sister to one-time Melbourne Cup favourite Puissance De Lune has started her career with a stunning debut victory in the UK. Stepping out over 1400m at Newbury on Friday night, striking grey filly Princess De Lune (Shamardal x Princess Serena) emerged from mid-field at the 400m and quickly streeted her opposition.

Jockey Kieran Shoemark was kind to the three-year-old in the closing stages but she still crossed the line four lengths clear of nearest rival Alnaas. Trainer Roger Charlton described the daughter of Shamardal as "very tall and big" and indicated he would adopt a patient approach with her. While big brother Puissance De Lune's career was impacted by injuries, the import showed tremendous talent after joining Darren Weir from France in 2012.Among the grey's highlights were a five-length win in the Group Three Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Flemington in 2012 and Group Two success in both the 2013 Blamey Stakes and PB Lawrence Stakes.He was the early favourite for the 2013 Melbourne Cup but failed to make it to the start line after pulling up lame following an unplaced finish in the Cox Plate. Time will tell whether his little sister can develop into a Group-class galloper but she's clearly got ability (and a handy pedigree)!
