Rebel Dane Ready For Brisbane Swansong

Group One winner Rebel Dane (California Dane) will likely target the Stradbroke Handicap (Gr 1, 1400m) at Eagle Farm on 10 June after running in the Doomben 10,000 (Gr 1, 1200m) on 13 May. Rebel Dane, who will join the roster at Swettenham Stud in the spring, won the Manikato Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) last October and has run twice this preparation, finishing ninth in both the William Reid Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) and the T J Smith Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m). The Gary Portelli-trained gelding ran third in a barrier trial on Friday in preparation for the Doomben 10,000. "He'll go to Brisbane for the Doomben 10,000 and we'll work it out from there," Portelli said. "He trialled really well so it would be great to get another Group One win before he goes to stud."
