The stunning grey son of Shamardal had the opportunity at the recent Inglis Great Southern Sale to showcase the quality stock that he is capable of producing.
With his exciting first foals now grown into sort-after weanlings, his results are encouraging of bigger and better results as they mature into yearlings.
Nagambie’s Gilgai Farm offered the top priced Puissance De Lune weanling at the recent Inglis Great Southern Sale from the Group 2 placed mare, Anatomica. The grey colt was an outstanding type that will no doubt mature into a commanding yearling. Purchased for $80,000 by Damon Gabbady’s Belmont Bloodstock, the family includes the Group 2 winner Flak Jacket and the Listed winner Ballet Suite.
Gilgai Farm’s manager Kelly Skillecorn was impressed by the foal from the start.
“He was exceptional from the day he was born and at the sale, all the good judges were on him. They gave me good feedback that he was as nice as any horse in the sale on type. Puissance De Lune is a no brainer as a stallion, he had such a high profile as a racehorse and Australians can relate to him.”
They also sold the Away Away colt for $24,000 out of a Fastnet Rock mare, from the international preformed family of Europe’s 3YO Champion filly Peeping Fawn and US 3YO Champion filly, Rags to Riches.
Mares in foal to Puissance De Lune were well received at the sale also, with Another Sunday, boasting one of the strongest families in the studbook, selling to good judge Bill Mitchell. Sold in the Swettenham Stud draft for $60,000 she was by Redoute’s Choice out of the Sunday Silence mare, Bella Sunday.
Other mares offered in foal to Puissance De Lune included the Limerick Lane pair. Lonhro mare, Eruption, from the family of Offenbach and Tukiyo, and the More Than Ready mare I’m Wicked from the black type studded female family of Rose O’ War, Rose of Peace and Savana City, both commanding more than double his service fee.
A multiple Group 1 placegetter, Puissance De Lune is the only Group-winning son of European champion Shamardal to stand at stud in Australia.
A true professional, Puissance De Lune had a tremendous turn of foot, winning Group races from 1400m to 2600m. He had five placings at Group One level, missing two in head-bobbers, an indication of how competitive and consistent he was at the elite level of Australian racing.
Puissance De Lune is proving to be highly popular with the breeders, and he will no doubt be serving another good book of mares this year off the strength of his weanlings.
Puissance De Lune stands at Swettenham Stud in 2017 for $8,800 Inc. GST.
